good morning ~
today I'm very proud to present a new compilation of Thursday tracks, kind of a best of 2023. jesus was a slot machine is out now on bandcamp and everywhere else, including streaming!
It's a collection of widely varied instrumental tracks that at times veers dangerously into bop/slap territory (track 4 in particular). Lots of drum machines, lots of cassette tape hiss, lots of spacious piano, one track with something close to lyrics. It's cool to listen to: for me 2023 was a hectic year of shifts and moves but still I spent some time recording things hoping you might hear them.
These tracks - as well as last year's heaven is a void between load screens - are available thanks to the label Sound as Language, a great roster and sister label to Tiny Engines (who you will be hearing about more soon).
Often I wonder - “what form will we have on our hands at the end of all this work?”
The recordings, the writing, the formatting - how will it all gather together?
What does it all add up to? Simply, an accumulation.
In every email sent there is a tiny sparrow of hope.
I took wing often in 2023 but not as often as I’d like.
The big break is not coming. But someone out there is listening.
But what about you? Are you gathering it all up? If you put together a collection of your greatest sounds of 2023, what would you hear?
