good morning ~
Using today's newsletter to share the OneBeat mixtape that just went online yesterday - you can download or stream the entire thing on Bandcamp:
OneBeat is the organization that runs the residency/fellowship/program I got to be a part of earlier this year. Basically, 25 musicians from all over the globe are given the time, space, and personnel support necessary to meet, collaborate, and perform together. A simple concept that felt surprisingly radical.
Somehow - I'm amazed at how cohesive and good-sounding the mixtape is - we were able to cut these tracks in-between tour dates, group meals, and our numerous late night karaoke sessions (shout out to Krishna Jhaveri for the heroic mix). These recordings capture some of the energy from an almost hilariously wide array of folks and I am very proud to be nestled among them.
Oddly enough, OneBeat is funded by the U.S. Department of State and in a time of unacceptably cruel, government sanctioned international violence it does give me a little glimmer of hope to know that we successfully siphoned a few drops of funds away from the imperial war machine into the making international music friends effort.
Hope you enjoy these tracks, thanks for checking them out ~
But what about you? How would you approach making music with 24 strangers? Which of your mixtapes just dropped? What is giving you a little glimmer of hope?
